On this day, 21 years ago, Pearl Jam - "Ten" came out
It was August 27th, 1991. Pearl Jam releases their debut album Ten. Nothing happens. Late 1992 rolls around, the album finally reaches the top 200 on the billboard charts after the explosion of Nirvana and the Seattle "grunge" scene. At the time I had never heard Pearl Jam, but hearing the name lots, when a girl in my class asked me what bands I liked, I said "ya know, Pearl Jam and stuff"...
Well, when my birthday rolled around, said girl bought me the Pearl Jam - Ten cassette. She later became my 6th grade girlfriend and we held hands a few times. I never loved her. But what I did love, was Pearl Jam - Ten. I must admit, upon first listen, I thought, why is this guy singing like this? Why isn't he angry sounding like Phil Anselmo? But later, I realized, this guy rules, and these songs are incredible. In fact, twenty one years later, the record still sounds as good as it did when it came out. A timeless classic, that I still can't decipher half the lyrics to, but I know the sounds perfect.
*I still have the cassette tape, but last time I listened I found out that my younger brother years later, had taped over the song "Garden" with some shitty Eminem song he heard on the radio (furthering my hatred for that "no talent ass clown").
