That is what it should have been called last night during the 12/12/12 Sandy relief concert at Madison Square Garden. Instead, the internet was telling me that there would be a Nirvana reunion with Paul McCartney filling in for Cobain. Upon hearing this news, I thought, "Amazing!! What will this sound like? Has McCartney ever heard Nirvana? Which Nirvana songs might work with McCartney's voice? "About A Girl"? "Lithium"?""Aneurysm"?"
Different possibilities excited me. Naturally, being that I was in serious need of sleep last night and had a work project in need of finishing, I was forced to put these things off to stay up until after midnight when they would finally go on.
And to bitch for a second more, why couldn't they have put Kanye West last? That would have been great for his ego to be the headliner, and also good for all the wall street looking, 40+ audience to get back to their mansions early and cuddle up with their young trophy wives.
Anyways, the tension built as McCartney announced that he had been asked to jam with some guys who turned out to be all former members of Nirvana. Why things like this don't happen to me, who knows? So at this point, all supposed 2 million people watching were probably thinking the same thing I was: what Nirvana songs are we about to hear?

What would happen next, would haunt me until morning. Grohl bashed out a loud hi hat count chanting along "1-2-3-4" and THEN........In Bloom??
..wait, which Nirvana song is this? ...it's hard to make out...maybe a deep cut? Hmmm, okay...maybe it's a Beatles song I don't know?....okay he's saying "Mother"...Danzig??? That wouldn't make sense... Six minutes later the song ends and I still have no idea. And then, just like that, it's...over?
Let down!
However, upon further analysis while laying in bed bed tossing and turning furiously, trying to piece it all together, I came to the realization that the song was their own creation. Sudden relief hit me. Maybe that was pretty cool after all. Also, maybe them playing a Nirvana song, would've cheapened what Nirvana was. Dave and Chris have been really good in laying Nirvana to rest, and not covering the songs with Foo Fighters or any other band, so maybe it should remain that way. It was just nice to see the guys up their playing together again after all these years. Grohl, Noveselic, Smear (kind of), you are still my favs.
