Weirdo of the Day (April 7th 2013)

Today's weirdo looks as though he fell asleep during the shoot of Michael Jackson's "Bad" video in 1987 and still hasn't woken up.

Sunday (Easter) Weirdo of the Day

I'd almost say maybe this guy was dressed up for some sort of Easter parade and is not in fact a weirdo...  However, the pony tail confirms it.

New Addition to the Daily Wierdo...

In addition to the very infrequent music related posts, and the Weekly Weirdo podcast, I am creating something new.  In celebration of all the other weirdo's I see around the city on a daily basis, I have decided to include a segment called "Weirdo of the Day".  In these posts you will see a candid picture of said weirdo along with a caption from yours truly.  I must warn you, most of these weirdos will be a lot more extreme on the weirdo scale.  I also should tell you, I cannot do this alone.  As much as I'd like to make that promise, I couldn't even keep up with the regular posts.   That being said, this is a call to you folks.  I know you recently snapped a phone picture of that guy on the train with a lizard in his pocket and tie dyed wolf t-shirt.  Send it in! I will put them up for everyone to enjoy and credit you if you would like credit.  Dailyweirdo@gmail.com. Let the weird go wild!

Internet Celebrity "Grumpy Cat" Schedules Public Appearance.

It has been announced that everybody's favorite internet meme, "Grumpy Cat", will be showing up at South by Southwest.  I am pretty sure that this will be against Grumpy Cat(whose real name is Tardar Sauce)'s will.  It's unlikely that a cat that already lives in a constant state of annoyance, wants to be thrust into the spotlight at a loud music and art festival where every annoying drunk hipster will be clawing their way through to snap a picture on their iphone 5.  But, as well as hanging out in the Mashable tent all day being gawked at, the cat will also be shooting a friskie's commercial which will make Tardar Sauce's owner, one rich bitch.  I guess that's all that matters right?

Dave Grohl's Soundcity movie Soundtrack up for streaming

Dave Grohl's debut in the film world, Sound City: From Real to Reel, now has a soundtrack which is streaming at NPR.org.  The film is a documentary about Sound City studios in Van Nuys, California where Grohl recorded one of the greatest records of all time Nirvana's Nevermind.  On this soundtrack, Grohl collaborates with several different artists that have also recorded at the studio to write and record new songs.  Artists include Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Rick Springfield and more.  Grohl also recently played two US concerts featuring many of the artists, to promote the movie.  You can hear a really spotty review about the NYC show on the first Weekly Weirdo podcast.

Mike McCready and Duff McKagan's Neck Forming New Band.

The word is out that Mike McCready of Pearl Jam and Duff McKagan, best known for his work in punk band the Farts (but also the lesser known Guns N Roses), are starting a new band together. Also involved is drummer Barrett Martin formerly of the Screaming Trees. McCready and Martin played together back in the early 90's in the band Mad Season alongside deceased Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley(before he was deceased).  The idea was sprouted by McCready and Barrett when they began reviewing old unreleased Mad Season demo's while preparing the re-release of the first and only Mad Season album Above, due out April 2nd.

-Greg discusses his overnight wait in line to see the taping of Saturday Night Live.
-I mumble my way through a concert review of the Soundcity Showcase hosted by Dave Grohl, while realizing I can hardly remember the thing.
-Me and Greg return a call from our friend Ryan after he leaves Greg an ecstatic voicemail.

Are you excited?

Kurt Cobain would be 46 today / My first awful guitar.

On this day, February 20th 1967,  Kurt Cobain was born in Aberdeen, Washington.  As we all know, Kurt would go on to start the band Nirvana. And Nirvana, would spawn an entire movement and culture that would overtake the mainstream in 1991, creating a demand for underground music, that hadn't existed since the Sex Pistols reached stardom in the late 70's.  No longer would rock bands who sang about muscle cars, woman and partying, like Motley Crue, Poison etc.  dominate the airwaves, but now a new breed of unique, less polished rock, from tangible artists who looked more like their audience than they did rockstars.  I still remember the shift that Nirvana's Nevermind created in popular culture, which came shortly after the video for Smells Like Teen Spirit was aired.  The classic 80's movie jock, football star, muscle headed, alpha males were not cool anymore and the long haired scrawny, ripped jeans wearing, slackers were.  For one year in middle school,  I was "cool".  It was a huge shift, the world was turned on its head.  To be into sports was shunned, to be rich meant you were a douchebag, and I realized that my blue collar, guitar playing, flannel shirt, ripped jeans wearing father was cooler than I thought.

New Nick Cave song and video!

Nick Cave has a new record due out February 18th.  The record is titled "Push the Sky Away" and will mark his 15th studio album.  The cool thing about this record, aside from it being Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, is that it was recorded in a studio based out of a 19th century mansion in the South of France.  La Fabrique it is called.  One day I will probably operate this blog out of a place similar...ya know once the blog becomes so massive I not only need a huge staff to run it, but I yield a large staff while running it.  I will be God of the weirdo's.  Facebook will be placing ads on MY site.
Getting back on topic, you can now see the video for the new single called "We No Who U R", which reads like a text message I'd get from a group of high schooler's trying to intimidate me...

Springsteen To Be Honored for Actually Giving a Crap

Bruce Springsteen will be honored as Musicares person of the year on February 8th.  The event will be hosted by funny man Jon Stewart of the Daily Show.  If you don't know what Musicares is...I can't really tell you.  From what I've read, which is one article about this event, it provides assistance to people in the music world during times of need.  I'm not sure how you can become qualified, and if it helps independent artists or maybe even just people that just like music? But in that case, I'd like to think of myself as part of the music world, and any and all financial assistance will be welcomed. Getting back to the Boss...he is often involved in charity events, as just recently with the Hurricane Sandy benefit, and actually gives a crap...

Best Albums Of The Year According to this weirdo...

Now that the year is officially over, I can finally post my Best Of list for albums that came out in 2012. Unlike all those other blogs/websites/people who posted it a few weeks or even over  a month ago, I waited patiently to the last second of 2012 in case some record randomly came out and completely blew my mind... As you could expect, this didn't happen.  Regardless though, it was a pretty good year for music.  It was no 1991 by any means, but there were still a few highlights.
P.S. You may be wondering what the picture has to do with any of this?  I cannot tell you.  It is just what happened when I put the words "Butt Plunger" into Google image search.
