Bruce Springsteen will be honored as Musicares person of the year on February 8th. The event will be hosted by funny man Jon Stewart of the Daily Show. If you don't know what Musicares is...I can't really tell you. From what I've read, which is one article about this event, it provides assistance to people in the music world during times of need. I'm not sure how you can become qualified, and if it helps independent artists or maybe even just people that just like music? But in that case, I'd like to think of myself as part of the music world, and any and all financial assistance will be welcomed. Getting back to the Boss...he is often involved in charity events, as just recently with the Hurricane Sandy benefit, and actually gives a crap...
The event will see the likes of Elton John, Neil Young, Sting, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Alabama
Shakes, Mumford & Sons, Faith Hill, Patti Smith, Jackson Browne,
Kenny Chesney, Ben Harper, Emmylou Harris, Jim James, Juanes, Natalie
Maines, Tim McGraw, Tom Morello and Mavis Staples all paying tribute to Bruce. This honor, which takes place two days before the Grammy's is said to be "a big deal". My Mom, and fellow Springsteen fan, told me that in an email today, saying those exact words.
The event will not only celebrate Springsteen as a philanthropist, but also as an accomplished artist. Sometimes, when I meet a girl in the bar who asks me what I do, instead of saying aspiring blogger, I just say I am a "philanthropist". Most times, I've found the girls do not know what that is. However, it sounds impressive and sounds like a career, and I am able to move the conversation along, with "and you?" While, it's possible they mistook "philanthropist" for "podiatrist" and think I'm some sort of foot doctor...however strange that is...all doctor's make bank. Women tend to like that. That's why a woman is more apt to pursue that of a Springsteen, than that of a homeless guy playing a guitar with 3 broken strings in the subway.
