Remember last year when this raving lunatic in Norway planted a bomb in a car in front of some government buildings which went off and killed eight people? Then a few hours later, he showed up at summer camp dressed as a police officer and opened fire on a crowd killing sixty-nine more people. Well this past Sunday, July 22nd, marked the one year anniversary of this event, and to remember the victims, a Memorial concert was scheduled. Guess who showed up? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't Gilbert Gottfried...
Bruce Springsteen who was on tour in Europe at the time, decided he would take a little time off to show up alongside Stevie Van Zandt and play a few songs. "Steve and I are honored to be included here tonight, and for all of us who love Democracy and tolerance, it was an international tragedy. I want to send this out as prayer for a peaceful future for Norway, and dedicate it to the families who have lost their loved ones". Bruce and Stevie then went into a beautiful version of "We Shall Overcome".
As we know, Stevie has been in Norway a lot lately from starring in a hit TV show "Lily Hammer". The shows first episode was said to have been watched by over one million Norwegians. Perhaps Stevie should have been doing the talking here?
Anyhow, moral of the story, Bruce Springsteen is a nice guy with good intentions. Despite his enormous success, he never forgets the struggle. We should all listen to Bruce Springsteen. And that is all I have to say about that.
